Post Office RD calculator

Three calculators that work out RD figures the way the post office does: the maturity amount, the late fee or the advance rebate on an installment, and your commission. They use the same rules as the RD Agent app.

RD maturity calculator

A post office RD keeps the interest rate of the month it was opened, for its whole term. Enter the monthly installment and the month the account was opened.

Maturity amount

₹71,365.83

Interest rate
6.7% a year
Matures in
October 2031
You deposit
₹60,000
Interest earned
₹11,365.83

Interest is compounded every quarter, as the post office does: M = R × ((1 + i)ⁿ − 1) ÷ (1 − (1 + i)^(−1/3)), where R is the monthly installment, i = rate ÷ 400 and n = years × 4.

An RD can be extended for 5 more years after maturity; it keeps the rate of the day it was opened.

Commission is worked out per lot and rounded to the rupee by the department, so your statement can differ by a few rupees.

Questions agents ask

What is the post office RD interest rate now?

6.7% a year for accounts opened now. An account keeps the rate of the month it was opened until it matures, even when the rate changes later.

How is the RD late fee worked out?

₹1 for every ₹100 of the monthly installment, for each late month. A ₹500 account that is 3 months late pays ₹15 default fee with those 3 installments.

When does a customer get a rebate?

When 6 or more installments are paid in advance at once: ₹10 per ₹100 of the monthly installment for 6–11 installments, ₹40 per ₹100 for 12 or more.

What happens after 5 missed installments?

The account is discontinued. The portal does not take its installment until the customer revives it at the post office.

How much commission does an RD agent get?

4% of the RD deposits collected, less 2% TDS. The RD Agent app shows the commission of every lot with the TDS and the net amount.

Let the app do this for every account

RD Agent works out the default fee and rebate for each customer while you collect, makes cash lots of up to ₹20,000 and keeps your commission book — on the phone and the computer.

These calculators give an estimate. The post office's own figures are final. This is not an India Post website.
